valid_from_domain Triggered By softdnserror

Post by bcw » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:10 pm

Hi,

I had a situation where reverse look-ups were impaired for about an hour which resulted in mail being incorrectly tagged as spam (Version: 1.0.8-1.3).

PS It would be a nice enhancement if the log searches were case insensitive.

Hello bcw,

In those cases we suggest temporarily disabling the rule for reverse dns check rule (check_dynamic_dns_rule). In addition, running a local caching DNS server and making sure you have multiple entries in /etc/resolv.conf would help prevent this issue in the future.

Thank you for the suggestion! We will notify our developers for review and inclusion in a future release.

Hi,

Per the reply to the post http://forums.wizard.ca/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=70208,

"MagicSpam will not block messages due to a softdnserror because of their potential to be legitimate. In other words we do not penalize senders because of a problem that could potentially be on the recipient's end."

Based on the above, the behavior I have reported is exactly opposite to what is expected and needs to be addressed.

The rationale for the above statement, which remains true, is exactly the situation that occurred and the result was as predicted, HAM was classified as SPAM because of a problem at the receiving server.
