Reason why wildcards are not generally recommended

Hi, what is the reason for the following warning message, when adding to the whitelist or blacklist in WHM -> MagicSpam -> Settings -> Exemptions ?
or is it because you are whitelisting/blacklisting all email from an entire domain (i.e. Blacklisting *@gmail.com would probably not be a good idea)?
Is it because MagicSpam chews up more server resources processing comparing email addresses to wildcard entries,WARNING: while '*' wildcards are supported, they are not generally recommended.
New entry added.
